Militant Flamboyance: a brief history of Stonewall and other queer happenings

My friend and collaborator Brad and I just completed a zine about queer history and the Stonewall Riots' place within it. We printed a couple hundred copies and enlisted the help of our friend Danny to help us distro them at this years' PRIDE parade, which fell on the 40th anniversary of Stonewall. We were fortunate enough to slip our way into the parade and hook up with a group who had similar interests in inserting a radical and subversive history into a largely corporate environment—they were a marching timeline of radical queer history. We jumped the railings and quickly told them about our zine, they were excited and generously invited us to march with them.

May 68

"Historians will describe through which cracks the sea rushed in May 1968. The task of revolutionary theory is to analyze the sea itself; the task to revolutionary action it to create a new tidal wave"

This book is a brief but really helpful, insightful telling of the events of May 68 Paris as well as a pretty sharp analysis of why it failed.

Notes Toward a Radical, Critical Public Pedagogy

a thought still in process.

It is worthwhile to ask and consider, as I will do in the following pages, what do education and dialogic practices have to offer artistic and activist communities? Is there anything to gain by attempting to collapse, or perhaps intersect, the three disciplines of art, activism, and education? In what way might we provide a new framework for learning, dissent, and critical artistic engagement within a wider community beyond the traditional art spaces and into the public sphere? Ultimately, how might a more complicated engagement in these discourses contribute our continual struggle?

A big bareheaded woman
in an apron

Her hair slicked back standing
on the street

One stockinged foot toeing
the sidewalk

Her shoe in her hand. Looking
intently into it

She pulls out the paper insole
to find the nail

That has been hurting her
